Today’s business English expression is a “change of pace”

A change of pace means to do something different.

For example..

I quite enjoy going on business trips, it’s a nice change of pace.

I don’t mind it when we are sent out of the office on errand, it’s a change of pace from the usual routine.

Travel English -  Starting a conversation

One of the best ways to enhance our travelling is to communicate with other people, locals or other travellers.

The best time to talk to someone is when they are not moving, for example when you are standing in line, or when you are sitting down on a bench or a nearby table. It’s best not to stop someone when they are walking on the road. 

Here are some generic phrases we can use to start a conversation:

The weather is so nice today. 
Are you from around here?
There sure are many people here today!
Are you here on business or on vacation?
Are these  your kids? They are so cute!
What kind of dog is that? ← Only if they are holding a dog

lose heart:  to stop believing that you can succeed
He was almost about to lose heart when he received the most wonderful news.
心を失う：上手くいくと信じるのを止める

Hello guys,

It’s this time of the year again, the weather is warmer, the cherry blossoms are blooming and there is an air of excitement all around the country!

As you know, we’ll be holding our party this Sunday from 14:00 - 17:00, so let’s please all meet up by 13:50 and walk together to our gathering spot.

The Hanami season is approaching its end but we chose this date so the park is not too crowded and we can all have a lovely picnic in relative peace!

As the Hanami participation is free, please make sure to bring some drinks and food for yourselves and for sharing with the group.

Strangely though we hardly ever use it to describe someone’s youth and instead to talk about the fact that we are getting older.

Hi there! This year as usual we are attempting to hold a hanami party in Maizuru Park. Hopefully this year doesn’t follow the usual trend of sudden rain on the day!!
The party will be held from 14:00-17:00 on Sunday the 8th of April, please feel free to bring friends and or family too but if you do be sure to  let us know in advance.
We will be providing some drinks and setting up the space but we are also asking everyone to bring a little something along too.
If you have some kind of sheet that you use for these occasions please bring that with you because we have run out of space in the past.
