ウィンザー英会話より明けましておめでとうございます

こんにちは、みなさん。

素敵な冬休みを過ごされましたか？ウィンザー英会話では、クリスマスとお正月に10日間のお休みがありました。今年はいつもより早く1月4日に開校しました。1月4日はたまたま私の誕生日なので………お誕生日おめでとう、私！

妻の故郷である筑後（知らない方のために：筑後は久留米市の近くにある小さな町です）に数日間家族と一緒に滞在したことを除いて、私たちは福岡で休暇を過ごしました。

2021年は私たちにとって非常に困難な年でした。パンデミックで小企業を経営、改善、拡大しようとすることは非常にストレスの多い年でした。昨年、私たちはパンデミックに関係なく、大きなリスクを冒し、懸命に働き、事業を前進させることを決定しました。いろいろな方法で行ったと思いますが、昨年行った最大のプロジェクトは、福岡雙葉小学校から徒歩数分のところにある平尾浄水町の新しいキッズスクールで、これまでで最大のプロジェクトでした。そこでは、幼稚園のアドバンスクラス、小学校のアドバンスクラス、サマースクールなど、たくさんの新しいことを試みました（興味のある方のために：大人のプライベートレッスンもあります）。何もないところからその学校を作り、それらすべての新しいコースを決定することは非常にエキサイティングでしたが、時には非常に挑戦的でストレスの多いものでした。

それはありがたいことに大成功でした。私たちの生徒は全員英語を上達させることができ、私たちのアドバンス幼児コースのすべての生徒は非常に厳しいテストに合格し、福岡雙葉小学校のGCコースに入学しました。私たちは皆、その結果に大喜びし、生徒たちと彼らをそのステージに導くために費やしたすべての仕事をとても誇りに思っています。

Hello everyone, 

Did you all have a lovely winter break? In Windsor Eikaiwa we had a 10 day break for Christmas and for New Year’s. This year we opened up earlier than we usually do on Jan 4th. January 4th also happens to be my birthday so ……… Happy Birthday Me!

I spent all the break in Fukuoka with my family except for a couple of days that we stayed in my wife’s hometown in Chikugo (That’s a small city near Kurume city for those of you that don’t know).

2021 was a very challenging year for us, trying to run, improve and expand a small business in the pandemic has been very stressful. Last year we decided that regardless of the pandemic we are going to take big risks, work hard and move our business forward. I think we did that in many ways but the biggest project we undertook last year was our new kids school in HiraoJosui which is located a couple of minutes on foot from Futaba and was our biggest project to date. At that branch we tried a lot of new things, advanced kindergarten classes, advanced elementary classes, summer school and so on (We also have Adult private lessons there for those that are interested). Building that school from nothing and deciding all those new courses was very exciting but also very challenging and stressful at times. 

It was thankfully very successful. Our students could all improve their English and all the students in our advanced kindergarten course passed a very hard test and entered an English Immersion Course in Futaba GC. We were all elated by the results and so proud of our students and all the work we had put to get them to that stage.

去年は大変な仕事と大変な時間を重ねましたが、ホリデーの間はいっさい何もせずに過ごすことを求めていました。子供たちとビデオゲームをしたり、本を読んだり、たくさん休みました。そして、それは私がこの休暇中にやったことの全てです。休暇中に一冊しか本を読み終わることができませんでしたが、それは大きな本でした。それはウォルター・アイザクソンによるベンジャミン・フランクリンの伝記です。私はアイザクソンの伝記の大ファンであり、おそらく、私が完全に興味を持っていないヘンリー・キッシンジャーの伝記を除いて、それらのほとんどを読んだことがあります。これは、アメリカ合衆国建国の父のうちの一人の人生について、非常によく研究された詳細な記述でした。また、その時期、おそらく特にフランス革命についてもっと読みたくなりました。

After all the hard work and hard times last year I wanted to spend my holidays doing absolutely nothing! Just playing video games with my kids, reading books and resting a lot. And that’s what I did for the entirety of my holidays. I only got to finish one book in the holidays but it was a big one. It was the biography of Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaakson. I’m a big fan of Isaakson’s biographies and have read most of them except, I think, of his biography of Henry Kissinger in whom I’m not entirely interested in. It was a very well-researched, detailed account of the life of one of the founding fathers of the USA. It also made me want to read more about that period, maybe especially the French Revolution.

休暇の後は完全に体が休まり、再びやる気に満ち溢れています。今年は大きな目標がありますが、その目標については次のブログでお話しします！
