Hello everyone, the weekend is nearly here again and if you aren’t already partied out from the new year then it means….party time!

Today I’ll show you another way to say party or social event and that is “do”

For example, 

“We are having a leaving do for Tim, he’s moving to Germany next week.”

“John and Claire’s wedding do was so much fun! We had an amazing time.”

トラベル英会話 - 私の旅行 in 2017

Travel English -   My travelling in 2017

2017 was a very busy year for us in Kensington, we diligently did our best so as to make our school and classes better for you to improve your English and also of course enjoy your classes.

For me it was a very important year professionally as our school managed to mature in 2017. Personally I didn’t really do so much outside work in 2017, but I managed to travel a few times with my family. This year we went to Shikoku and Saga in spring, we went to Goto and Oshima in summer and we went to Oita and Vietnam in autumn.

My best travelling experience was probably going to Shikoku with my family, I think we made many wonderful memories on that trip and that is what travelling is all about.

I hope we can manage to travel a lot in 2018 as well!

トラベル英会話-私の旅行 in 2017

2017年は、私ケンジントン英会話にとってはとても忙しい1年でした。みなさんの英語が上達するように、またみなさんがレッスンを楽しめるように、私たちは教室とレッスンをより良くするために一生懸命にベストを尽くしました。

私にとってこの1年は、仕事面では、教室を成長させるためのとても大事な1年でした。
プライベートでは、あまり良くできなかったのですが、なんとか、数回家族で旅行に行けました。春には四国と佐賀に行って、夏には五島と大島に行って、秋には大分とベトナムに行きました。

私の1番よかった旅行は、家族で行った四国です。
その旅行でとても素敵な思い出ができたと思います。

2018年もたくさん旅行に行きたいです。

Happy New Year

New year greetings

Hello there everyone, a very happy new year from all of us at Kensington Eikaiwa!

Last year was a great year for us, we opened our school in Ropponmatsu, added a few new great new members to our team and started our teens lessons, so all in all a wonderful year and it’s all thanks to you!

It was a great year in the classroom too with our new students making remarkable progress and our longer term students, some of whom have been with us from day one, continuing their great work and helping to contribute the fantastic atmosphere in the class and the school.

For this year, we will be doing all we can to improve our lessons and services for you the same as always and please remember that we are always open to suggestion so don’t be afraid to come to us with any ideas or requests that you might have.

去年は私たちにとってとてもいい年でした。六本松校をオープンし、数名の素晴らしいチームメイトが増え、ティーンレッスンもスタートしました。

Yesterday I shared with you my best internet video, so today I’ll share with you my second best internet video ever. It’s the Kazookeylele!

I’m not sure what to say about this video, it’s both a terrible cover of a terrible song (Europe’s The Final Countdown) but at the same time it’s also a feat of creative brilliance. The guy made an DIY musical instrument and single handedly semi-competently covered a pretty terrible rock song.

それは、カズーキーレレです。なんて説明したらいいのか、ひどい曲（ヨーロッパのファイナルカウントダウン）のひどいカバー曲ですが、それと同時に、クリエイティブで才気あふれた芸当だと思います。この人は自分で楽器を作り、1人でひどいロックソングをだいたい適当にカバーしています。

My favourite Internet video 

Our Thursday blog is usually about the new classes Jaimie and I make every week. This week Jaimie and I are on holiday and our school is closed. So instead of our usual blog previewing our weekend classes I’ll be sharing with you one of my favourite videos on the internet ever.

What’s not to love about this video. It’s a great cover (Elbow)  of a great pop song (Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women) with Northern English accents and cats. I first came across it about 10-15 years ago and still love it.

この動画を好きにならないわけがない。北のイギリス訛りと猫を使った最高なポップソング（デスティニーチャイルドのインディペンデントウーマン）のエルボーのカバー曲です。10年か15年前かにこの曲に出会って、今だに大好きです。

Merry Christmas!!!

Hello Everyone, as it is Christmas today, we’ll not be posting our usual Business English blog as we do on usual Mondays. Christmas is unfortunately not a holiday in Japan but for us in Kensington it’s one of the most important days in the year, and it’s not a day for business. It’s a day to spend with and for your family. 

My daughter will be waking up today with the same eager anticipation she wakes up every Christmas day to see if Santa has brought the presents she asked for. She has asked for a desk this year so she can do her homework more easily. Santa has indeed bought the desk from Rakuten and his little elves spent Christmas Eve drunk trying to assemble it. 

My son Alexander is almost 2 years old and is still unaware of Santa’s existence so he hasn’t asked for anything. Nevertheless, Santa has decided to bring him an Anpanman related toy which he found on Amazon. Alexander will undoubtedly be happy as Anpanman is his hero!

Santa hasn’t bought anything for me unfortunately but I’m planning to cook a roast chicken (turkey doesn’t fit our tiny over :(), make some delicious bruschettas, watch some Christmas movies, play some board games and have a great time with my family as we usually do every Christmas. That’s quite enough of a present!

みなさんこんにちは。今日はクリスマスなので、いつもの月曜日のビジネス英会話のブログは書きません。残念なことに、クリスマスは日本では祝日ではありません。しかし、私たちケンジントン英会話にとっては1年の中でとても大事な日なので、仕事はお休みです。今日は家族と過ごす日です。

私の娘は、毎年のように、自分が欲しいプレゼントをサンタクロースが持ってきてくれたか、ワクワクしながら起きるでしょう。彼女は今年は机をお願いしていたので、もっと簡単に宿題ができるようになるでしょう。
サンタクロースは実際には、楽天から机を買って、クリスマスイブに、小さな妖精達が酔っ払いながら机を組み立てます。

私の息子のアレキサンダーは、まだ2歳ほどなので、サンタクロースの存在もわからないので彼はサンタクロースに何も頼んでいません。けれど、サンタクロースは、Amazonで見つけたアンパンマンのおもちゃをあげることにしました。アレキサンダーにとってアンパンマンはヒーローなので、彼はとても大喜びするでしょう！

残念ながらサンタクロースは私のプレゼントは買っていません。けれど、私は、ローストチキンを作り、（七面鳥は私たちの小さいオーブンには合わないので）、ブルスケッタを作り、クリスマスの映画を観て、ボードゲームをして、毎年のように家族と一緒に過ごします。この時間が充分なプレゼントです。

Hello there everyone, Friday is here again and Christmas is just around the corner!

I don’t know about you but one of the things I love about this time of year is the food so today I will introduce this expression “pig out”

Pig out means to eat a huge amount of food we also use it with the preposition on when specifying what kind of food we ate.

For example.

I can’t wait for Christmas dinner, I’m going to pig out on the turkey and stuffing!

I really pigged out at dinner today! I’m so full I can’t move.

Hello everyone,
My family and I travelled to Vietnam last month. It’s the third time we went there. Vietnam is a very beautiful country which has something for everyone. It has a lot of beautiful natural scenery, long sandy beaches, many historical attractions, big cities, fantastic food and great places for shopping.
This time we wanted to relax so we booked a resort hotel in Hoi An and spent most of our time relaxing by the pool. One of the reasons we need to spend most of our time in the hotel is that my daughter has a pretty serious peanut allergy and we can’t really have any meals outside.

Today’s important vocabulary is how to express your or a third person’s allergy.
I am allergic to peanuts.
My daughter is allergic to shrimp.
Does this food contain eggs?
Could you tell me which foods don’t contain peanut or peanut oil?
I have a serious shellfish allergy.
Please make sure that my food doesn’t contain any eggs.

みなさんこんにちは！
先月家族でベトナム旅行へ行ってきました。ベトナムへ行くのは3回目でした。
ベトナムはどなたにとっても本当に素敵な国だと思います。
美しい自然と景色、長いビーチ、歴史的なものや大きな都市、美味しい食べ物にショッピングするところなどが沢山あります。
今回はリラックスしたかったので、ホイアンのリゾートホテルを予約し、もっぱらホテルのプールで過ごしました。ほとんどの時間をホテルで過ごす必要があった一つの理由は、娘が深刻なピーナッツアレルギーがあり、外食はほぼできないからです。

今日の重要な語彙は、自分や第三者のアレルギーについて表現する言い方です。
・私はピーナッツアレルギーがあります。
・私の娘はえびアレルギーです。
・この食べ物は卵を使っていますか？
・どの食べ物が、ピーナッツやピーナッツオイルを使っていないか教えてもらえますか？
・私は重い甲殻アレルギーです。
・私の食事に卵が含まれていないか確認してもらえますか？

Hello everyone, another Friday another amazing monkey related idiom. Since winter has come and the weather has gotten rather cold, today’s idiom is a way to express that it’s freezing cold. 

Brass monkey weather (freezing cold)
「真鍮の型枠から大砲が落っこちるほどの」天気 (英俗・凍えるように寒い)
I’m not going out in that. It’s brass monkey weather out there.
あんな中外になんて出ないよ。外、めっちゃ寒いよね。
