Good morning, since our topic for this weekend is Animals and Pets, I’d like to introduce an animal idiom we use quite often. It’s the “elephant in the room” and it means a big issue everyone is aware of, but which is being ignored, because everybody finds discussion about it uncomfortable.

ex. Everybody pretended to have a good time even though there was still this massive elephant in the room.

Hi there everyone, today I’d like to show you a few phrases instructions you will be given while passing through airport security.

  • Passport and boarding pass please.

  • Place your bags on the tray please.

  • Please remove any electrical devices.

  • Throw out any liquids if they exceed 100ml please.

  • Empty your pockets, and remove your belt too please.

  • Pass through the metal detector one by one.

    Hope those come in handy

Warning! Be on your look out when passing through Pudong Airport in Shanghai, my wife and kids didn’t get their passports and tickets back from the staff while we were going through security and when we complained they basically told us to go away and that we were lying. ( sad face emoji) After complaining bitterly our passports were found in a stack of trays!!( hyper angry face emoji)

そしてひどく文句を言ったあと、私たちのパスポートはトレーで見つかりました。

Hello again, well I’ve been back from the UK for a week now and hopefully my jet lag has fully cleared up. There is an 9 hour time difference between here and there.

Here are a couple of examples of how to use these two phrases.

When I travelled from LA to Sydney I had the worst jet lag ever, it took me a full week to recover!

We always have to plan our video conferences very carefully due to the time difference between all the participating branch offices.

トラベル英会話ー五島での休日

Hello everyone,

The summer has ended and hopefully the weather will be cooler from now on. This summer Jaimie and I decided to take things a little bit slowly as our lives had been especially hectic from January to mid-June.

On July 28th, my family and I took the night ferry to the Goto islands. We arrived at 6am the next day at the Nakadori island and stayed at a camping ground near the Hamaguri beach.

My family and I spent 5 wonderful days in Goto, having daily barbeques, driving around the island, going on a short cruise, going to the beach, catching insects, enjoying Goto udon, looking at the starry sky and playing games.

They are a very beautiful destination quite near Fukuoka so I recommend you visit them too. As for us, we’ll definitely visit the Goto islands again.

夏が終わってしまいました。これから少し涼しくなってくれることを期待しています。

今年の1月から6月の半ばまで特にものすごく忙しかったので、Jaimieと私はこの夏はゆっくりしようと決めました。

7月28日、私と家族は五島までの夜間フェリーを使い次の日の朝6時になかどり島に着き、蛤浜ビーチの近くでキャンプをしました。

私の家族と私は五島で5日間とても素敵な時を過ごしました。バーベキューをし、島をドライブし、少しクルーズしたりビーチに行き虫を捕まえたり、五島うどんを楽しみ、星空を眺め、ゲームをしたりしました。

五島は福岡から近くとても美しい場所ですので、みなさんにもおすすめします。

私たちは必ずまた五島に訪れるでしょう。

Hello there everyone, as most of you know I was back in Scotland for the first time in 10 years this summer and except from the weather it was a fantastic journey. If you have never visited Scotland then I highly recommend it. The countryside is really peaceful and beautiful, the cities are  old, full of history and interesting You may have heard the food is bad but is was actually really good, go to a decent countryside pub if you want some real British food. 

I have to say, after 10 years outside of the country I really felt like a visitor, didn’t really know the value of money, had difficulty understanding people a little because the Scots have really strong accents, and was shocked when shop staff, waiters, and even people on the streets started chatting to me! 

There is so much more I would like to say about my trip but I can’t fit it all into one blog so I’ll tell you all about it next time me we meet. Here are a few pictures of Edinburgh ( good place to visit in August because there is a large performing arts festival on all month) and East Lothian where I stayed this time.

みなさんこんにちは、ほとんどの人は知っていると思いますが、この夏10年ぶりにスコットランドに帰省しました。天気を除いては、最高な旅になりました。もし一度もスコットランドに行ったことがない方には、本当におすすめの場所です。
田舎はとても穏やかで美しく、街は古く、歴史があり興味深いです。そして、みなさんよくないと聞いたことがあるかもしれませんが、食べ物は本当にとってもおいしかったです。
もし、本物のイギリス料理を食べたいなら、是非田舎のちゃんとしたパブへ行ってみてください。

10年ぶりにこの街へ来ることは、観光客のような気分でした。物価のこともよく知らず、人々を理解することも少し難しかったです。それはスコットランド人のアクセントはとっても強いですし、ショップスタッフやウエイター、道を歩く人までも私に話しかけてくるのでとても驚きました！

本当はもっともっとこの旅行について言いたいことがあるのですが、ひとつのブログには書ききれません。なので次回お会いした時に話しますね。今日はエディンバラ（8月に訪れるのがいいです。なぜなら1か月ずっと大きなアートフェスティバルが開催されているからです。）と、私が今回滞在したイーストロージアンの写真を載せます。
