Hi there!

Today’s beautiful business English expression is “ read between the lines” this expression should be pretty easy for Japanese students to understand because it is kind of similar to 空気を読む. It means that something hasn’t been directly stated but you can guess what is being said/written in a roundabout way.

Hello there,

I know we have talked about how to order in restaurants a lot but I’m going to explain the grammar a little bit here.

When we are ordering from the starter, main course or sweets menu we use the with the dish we want.

For example..

  • I’ll have the steak in pepper sauce please.

We use a/an when ordering side orders and drinks.

  • I’ll have an orange juice please.

  • I’d like a side salad please.

We can use some for uncountable nouns like cake/ wine/ cheese/ bread etc

  • I’d like some chocolate cake please.

  • May I have some blue cheese please.

スターターからメイン、そしてデザートをオーダーするとき、オーダーしたいものの前にtheをつけます。

例えば、

  • ペッパーソースのステーキをください。

サイドメニューのオーダーやドリンクは、a/anを使います。

  • オレンジジュースをください。

  • サイドのサラダをください。

ケーキ、ワイン、チーズ、パンなどの数えられない名詞のときはsomeを使います。

  • チョコレートケーキをください。

  • ブルーチーズを頂けますか？

Hello everyone, today I’d like to introduce you a winter-themed business English idiom. It’s putting something on ice and it means delaying or pausing it until later. The idiom probably comes from how we put certain foods (like meat) on ice to keep them fresh until you want to use them.

This phrase is used most often when talking about ideas, tasks or projects. For example, at work you might hear:

When you first arrive at your destination especially if you have travelled from Fukuoka to the US or back you may have to deal with jetlag, which is the feeling of being tired from traveling to another time zone, where the time is different from the time in your home region.

The weather, food and culture may also be different from what you’re used to. The feelings of surprise and confusion you get from all these new things are sometimes called a culture shock.

Have you ever experienced jetlag? What about a culture shock? I think I’ve never really experienced jetlag, but Japanese culture is very different from what I was used to in Europe and can be very difficult for foreigner people to get used to at first. I think I experienced many culture shocks in Japan in my earlier years.
