Please keep the change.
Please include a 10 percent tip in the charge.

Hello everyone, as you know last week we had a 三連休 I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did! A lot of my students ask me how we say that in English and although directly translated it would be either “3 days off in a row” or “ 3 consecutive days off” those phrases are a little unnatural.

In the U.K we would either call that “ a long weekend” or “ a bank holiday”

Hi there everyone, a few useful phrases for when you don’t understand what someone is saying to you.

First of all, when you didn’t hear what someone said or you couldn’t understand.

  • “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that.”
  • “Excuse me?”
  • “I beg your pardon?”
  • “I’m afraid I don’t really understand.”

Secondly, when you want someone to repeat themselves or make a request of them.

  • “Sorry, could you say that again please?”
  • “Excuse me could you repeat that please?”
  • “Would you mind speaking more slowly please?”

When you want to check that what you heard was correct.

  • “So you mean my flight is cancelled?
  • “So what you’re saying is I can’t reschedule?”
  • “Just to double check, you’re saying that there is no record of my reservation?”

“long in the tooth” simply means getting old.

For example..

I went to a club last weekend but soon realised that I’m getting a bit long in the tooth for them now.

This year is my 40th! I’m starting to feel a bit long in the tooth.
